PDAC president cities strong markets and government policy focus for record turnout <\/p>\n
Government backing for the mining industry and strong mineral commodity prices were strong factors in the record attendance at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) in Toronto, March 1-4.<\/p>\n
PDAC reports this year\u2019s show hit the high-water mark by way of attendance with 32,155 delegates.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s a record in the 94-year history of the convention.<\/p>\n
There were also 1,300 exhibitors inside the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, another PDAC record.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a clear sense of energy throughout the convention,\u201d said PDAC president Karen Rees of the turnout over the four-day industry event.<\/p>\n
\u201cStrong commodity markets are contributing to optimism across the sector. At the same time, governments and the public are recognizing more clearly how essential minerals are to economic growth, electrification, defence and modern technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n
PDAC has a rich legacy as the world\u2019s biggest mining show. It\u2019s the place where the global industry gathers for networking, investment discussions and to swing a deal. The program always features hundreds of expert presenters identifying the key opportunities and challenges shaping mineral exploration, project development and financing.<\/p>\n
The event is also the place where politicians and policymakers address the industry, make announcements and shape the ground rules that impact mineral supply, investment and development.<\/p>\n
\u201cGovernment policy choices play a critical role in supporting the mineral sector and ensuring Canada remains a global leader in mineral exploration and development,\u201d added Rees. \u201cProven, made-in-Canada exploration tax credits and greater regulatory predictability are essential to maintaining Canada\u2019s competitiveness and investor confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n
Known for the annual convention, PDAC said its work goes on year-round, billing themselves as the leading Canadian voice of the mineral exploration and development community, a sector that employs 724,000 and contributes $156 million to the national GDP.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn a more complex global environment, a strong mineral sector is fundamental to Canada\u2019s economic prosperity, supply-chain security and sovereignty,\u201d Rees said.<\/p>\n
