The Boston Red Sox<\/a> made an interesting bullpen addition on Thursday<\/p>\n

Boston announced the signing of left-hander Danny Coulombe, who was surprisingly still a free agent. The Red Sox gave him a major league deal, as he will be in Boston\u2019s bullpen this season.<\/p>\n

Although Coulombe signed late, he figures to be an impact reliever for the team, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora is ecstatic<\/a> that Craig Breslow and the front office were able to sign him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kitchen sink,\u201d Cora said about Coulombe, via BostonGlobe. \u201cHe\u2019s a guy that had a great season last year. He\u2019s able to spin the ball, avoids damage from the left side. Been there, done that. So, happy with the way we went about it, and happy that he\u2019s here with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boston signed Coulombe to a one-year, $1 million deal, and it was a long time coming. The two sides first touched base in November, and Coulombe wanted to join Boston as he felt like it was a good fit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew it was a great fit, even early on in the offseason. I\u2019m glad we can make it happen,\u201d Coulombe said. \u201cThey needed a lefty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coulombe went 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 55 games last season, including recording two saves.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old joins a Red Sox bullpen that features the likes of Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Slaten, and Greg Weissert, among others.<\/p>\n
