Is Derek Carr coming back from retirement or not?<\/p>\n
That’s the question the New Orleans Saints<\/a>, and the rest of the NFL, don’t really know the answer to yet. And for their to be an answer, there would likely have to be a team that wants Carr in the first place.<\/p>\n Right now, that doesn’t appear to be the case.<\/p>\n Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio<\/a> wrote this late on Saturday night:<\/p>\n “As of Scouting Combine week, the\u00a0Saints hadn\u2019t heard\u00a0from any team regarding a potential trade for Carr\u2019s contract rights. Through the first week of free agency, we\u2019re told, the Saints still haven\u2019t gotten any inquiries.”<\/p>\n MORE:\u00a0Michael Pittman Jr. had to fly 28 hours after trade from Colts to Steelers<\/a><\/p>\n Carr retired about a year ago as he faced the prospect of a difficult injury return to get back on the field for the Saints in 2025.<\/p>\n New Orleans ended up discovering that rookie QB Tyler Shough had enough promise to view him as their quarterback going fowrard.<\/p>\n Carr has said he’ll come back to play for a Super Bowl contender, but where is he going to find that at this point?<\/p>\n The Saints hold his rights, and they’d have to trade him if he wanted to play for a different team.<\/p>\n MORE:\u00a0Patriots subtly insult Rob Gronkowski<\/a><\/p>\n Operating under the assumption that the Raiders<\/a> pick Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick, only two teams might still need a QB — the Steelers<\/a> and the Cardinals<\/a>, writes Florio.<\/p>\n
