If the best four on the 17th at Sawgrass is a title Chad Ramey can claim <\/a>on the same day he fired his first career ace on Tour, then he might have to consider Ponte Vedra Beach home one day.<\/p>\n

At the very least getting out of the \u201cisland rough\u201d on golf\u2019s most feared par 3<\/a> would be the landslide winner of bogey of the week at the 2026 Players Championship<\/a>, and the shot that took the most out of any hole \u2014 literally. <\/p>\n

The No. 155-ranked player in the world survived what fans and analysts can only call \u201can ordeal\u201d when his ball fell off the green onto a wooden ledge. He decided to attempt his shot from the edge, a move that saved him from dropping.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight before I hit it, I was just like, \u2018Please just get the ball on the green,\u2019\u201d Ramey told reporters. \u201cThe drop zone shot \u2014 where that pin is \u2014 is not where you want to be. So I just kind of weighed the odds and we determined it was worth taking the chance. It couldn\u2019t have worked more perfectly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Friday the 13th … on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass<\/p>\n

“That wasn’t even close!” “Slow down!” and “If it wasn’t surrounded by water, they’d never miss the green.” When talking about the lowlights of the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass on Friday, March 13, it sounded like a house of horrors — for the most part. Here’s who provided the second-round highlights at The Players most famous hole<\/p>\n

While Ramey technically is a 17th survivor, the bogey-bogey finish could be marked down as less than ideal. He finished the final round with a 1-under 71, and looks poised for a top 30 finish, though. <\/p>\n

The back nine was a rollercoaster. When Ramey stepped onto the notorious No. 17 he was 5 under in the tournament.<\/p>\n

On the 13th hole, he made his first career PGA Tour ace. A birdie on 16 followed.<\/p>\n

Ramey makes first hole-in-one of 2026 Players<\/p>\n

Chad Ramey made a hole-in-one on the par-3 13th Sunday at the 2026 Players Championship, the first ace of the week on the Stadium Course.<\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t get any putts to fall, so to not have to putt, that was nice,\u201d Ramey said, adding there was a sigh of relief not having to use the putter on No. 13.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was hitting kind of a smooth 7-iron and it landed perfectly, almost pin high right on the slope and fed right down to the hole,\u201d he added of the shot.<\/p>\n

Ramey was quick to cut off the next question \u2014 which was whether that was the favorite shot of his career.<\/p>\n
