\n\t\u201cKPop Demon Hunters<\/a>\u201d took home the Oscar for best animated feature at Sunday night\u2019s Academy Awards. Netflix\u2019s most-watched movie in history beat \u201cArco,\u201d \u201cElio,\u201d \u201cLittle Am\u00e9lie or the Character of Rain\u201d and \u201cZootopia 2\u201d in the category.<\/p>\n \n\tThe \u201cKPop Demon Hunters\u201d winning streak has been unstoppable. It won for best animated film at the Golden<\/a> Globes, the Critics\u2019 Choice Awards, PGA Awards and it took home 10 Annie Awards. The film, produced by Sony Animation, was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, and produced by Michelle L.M. Wong. With the win, Kang and Wong make history as the first female Asian winners in best animated feature.<\/p>\n \n\tDuring her acceptance speech, Kang said, \u201cThank you to the Academy and to all fans who got us here, and for those of you who look like me.\u201d Tearfully, she said, \u201cI\u2019m so sorry that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this. But it is here. And that means that the next generations don\u2019t have to go longing. This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tA sequel was announced was week with Kang and Appelhans returning to direct and write the film, which is reportedly\u00a0aiming for release in 2029<\/a>. The follow-up film kicks off Appelhans and Kang\u2019s new, exclusive multi-year writing and directing deal with Netflix across animation.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cGolden,\u201d the breakout hit song from the film, also just won the Oscar for original song. It triumphed over \u201cI Lied to You\u201d from \u201cSinners<\/a>, Diane Warren\u2019s \u201cDear Me\u201d from her documentary \u201cDiane Warren: Relentless,\u201d Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner\u2019s title song from \u201cTrain Dreams\u201d and \u201cSweet Dreams of Joy\u201d by Nicholas Pike from \u201cViva Verdi!\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cGolden\u201d became the first K-pop song to ever to take home an Oscar. EJAE, who provides the singing voice of Rumi in the film, Mark Sonnenblick and South Korean hit factory\u00a0the Black Label<\/a> (Yu Han Lee, Hee Dong Nam, Zhun) made Oscar history by becoming the first Koreans to win best original song.<\/p>\n \n\tDuring her speech, a tearful EJAE said, \u201cGrowing up, people made fun of me liking KPop, but now everyone is singing our song and all of the Korean lyrics. I\u2019m so proud. This award is not about success. It\u2019s about resilience and I\u2019m just so grateful to our team. I want to thank the resilient cast of \u2018Demon Hunters.’\u201d<\/p>\n
