boxing<\/a>\u2018s industry in Britain that the country and two giant fighters capable of taking the combat world by storm.<\/p>\nWhile half that proved prescient, with both fighters winning various portions of the heavyweight championships, commanding A-side attention in some of the most meaningful match-ups in the modern era, they have yet to deliver the one fight fans wanted to see them in most \u2014 one against each other.<\/p>\n
This year, though, may be different.<\/p>\n
\u201cI said it was \u2018Signed\u2019,\u201d Davies told us, \u201cand then I quickly resolved that into agreed behind the scenes which everyone knows they\u2019ve agreed to fight this year. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an open secret in boxing that those two guys want to fight each other.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI clarified the word signed within a minute but people have taken it to mean, I know something they didn\u2019t know. And then it\u2019s a new story.\u201d<\/p>\n
He continued: \u201cStories I\u2019ve written recently \u2026 because on The Telegraph, about Frank Warren and Sela, the headline was very strong \u2014 Dana White trying to put British promoters into extinction, which, if you read the piece it doesn\u2019t actually say that, it\u2019s challenging their standing in boxing and he\u2019s doing it openly in boxing. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think people jump on things very quickly and it spreads like wildfire.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Boxing Social asked Davies about his relationship with Fury, and being with him in Thailand during his training camp for his upcoming fight April 11 against Arslanbek Makhmudov on Netflix.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve known [Fury] nearly 20 years \u2026 he\u2019s a fascinating character, there\u2019s a relationship there, of sorts, which is a long-standing thing,\u201d he said. \u201cOutside the interview, he seemed on amazing form. It was great to talk about him to his team, and find out he\u2019s sleeping on a boat in the harbor. He\u2019s in the best place mentally I\u2019ve seen him for a very long time.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s admitting he\u2019s getting old in boxing terms \u2026 an obsession and an addiction, probably only three fights left \u2014 maximum. And against Makhmudov he has to prove he still has it in his legs [against someone] who still does present problems if he\u2019s not on top of his game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Davies finished: \u201cIf Tyson is anything like as good as he was against [Oleksandr] Usyk I think he should dismantle and stop Makhmudov, or outbox him.\u201d<\/p>\n
