NFL<\/a> star Tua Tagovailoa<\/a> has admitted that he is \u201cnot too sure\u201d how he ended up on President Donald Trump\u2019s Council<\/a> on Sports, Nutrition, and Fitness, echoing the reaction of other football players named on the list.<\/p>\n

The Miami Dolphins quarterback said that, despite being initially unaware of his appointment to the council, the announcement was \u201can honor,\u201d and laughed off the president\u2019s poor pronunciation of his name.<\/p>\n

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the PCSFN<\/a> is a federal advisory committee that aims to promote healthy eating and physical activity for all people, \u201cregardless of background or ability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump announced the addition of Tagovailoa to the team last week, saying that he had \u201creally been fantastic,\u201d adding \u201cwhen he\u2019s not injured, he\u2019s great, he\u2019s gotta stay healthy, and he\u2019s a great guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is unclear how members of the PCSFN were selected, or why. When asked about how the decision to include him had come about, Tagovailoa appeared as surprised as anyone else.<\/p>\n

\u201cI should ask you that question, too, brother. How did that all develop? I\u2019m not too sure,\u201d he said, in response to a reporter’s question on the move Wednesday.<\/p>\n

His reaction was similar to fellow NFL star Saquon Barkley, of the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>, who was also named on the list, alongside Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> kicker Harrison Butker \u2013 who has courted controversy with his previous remarks about homosexuality.<\/p>\n

Barkley told PHLY that he was \u201cshocked\u201d that his name had been included in the list, and that he had since declined to participate due to not having enough time.<\/p>\n

Another controversial figure, former NFL player Lawrence Taylor, also expressed surprise that he was named to the council, telling reporters that he \u201cdoesn\u2019t know\u201d what he is doing. Speaking last week, the ex-New York Giants linebacker, who is a registered sex offender, said he was \u201cproud to be part of this team\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what we\u2019re supposed to be doing but I\u2019m here to serve, I\u2019m here to serve you [Trump],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

However, despite his lack of knowledge of PCSFN, Tagovailoa said Thursday that the appointment was \u201cpretty cool.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s an honor. I would say I don\u2019t know too much about it, but again, I think that\u2019s an honor,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He also was asked about Trump butchering the pronunciation of his last name in the council member announcement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019s had the worst,\u201d Tagovailoa laughed off. \u201cI\u2019ve heard a couple worse in Alabama, but it is what it is. I don\u2019t take that to heart. It is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an apparent impression of Trump himself, he added: \u201c\u2018He\u2019s a great guy, phenomenal guy, just got to stay healthy.\u2019 All of that. I like it, I enjoyed it.\u201d<\/p>\n
