{"id":541016,"date":"2026-03-16T22:27:48","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T22:27:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/541016\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T22:27:48","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T22:27:48","slug":"openais-own-mental-health-experts-unanimously-opposed-naughty-chatgpt-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/541016\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI\u2019s own mental health experts unanimously opposed \u201cnaughty\u201d ChatGPT launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ChatGPT\u2019s \u201cadult\u201d filters have been buggy<\/p>\n<p>Sources told the WSJ that they doubted if OpenAI\u2019s tools were ready to lock kids out of prohibited content.<\/p>\n<p>Their whistleblowing comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/ai\/openai-executive-who-opposed-adult-mode-fired-for-sexual-discrimination-3159c61b?mod=hp_lead_pos9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI fired a top safety executive<\/a> who opposed the release of \u201cadult mode.\u201d OpenAI denied the firing was related, but the exiting staffer directly criticized both the AI firm\u2019s ability to block kids from content and stop outputs from promoting child exploitation. Further, a second former safety staffer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/10\/28\/opinion\/openai-chatgpt-safety.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also spoke out<\/a> last fall, warning that parents shouldn\u2019t trust OpenAI\u2019s \u201cadult mode\u201d claims.<\/p>\n<p>To counter this narrative, OpenAI\u2019s spokesperson promised that the company \u201chas a developed plan to monitor for a range of potential long-term e\ufb00ects of adult mode, both positive and negative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, that plan was likely developed with the very experts the WSJ reported are staunchly opposing the roll-out, leaving parents to wonder if OpenAI cares about advice from its youth well-being team or not.<\/p>\n<p>On top of ineffective age checks or clever minors who dodge age gates, OpenAI may get in trouble with parents if its own systems unexpectedly fail. Back in April when OpenAI started dabbling with more risqu\u00e9 outputs, OpenAI fixed a bug that <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/04\/28\/openai-is-fixing-a-bug-that-allowed-minors-to-generate-erotic-conversations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">TechCrunch testing<\/a> found was allowing minors to access graphic erotica on ChatGPT.
