Toto Wolff has given his take on Lewis Hamilton\u2019s recent self-criticism, arguing that the Briton remains \u201cthe greatest of all time\u201d and should stay in the sport \u201cfor many more years\u201d.<\/p>\n
Hamilton made headlines over the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend when he reacted to a surprise Q2 exit by describing himself as \u201cabsolutely useless\u201d and suggesting Ferrari \u201cprobably need to change driver\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n After starting and finishing 12th in the race, Hamilton added that he was \u201clooking forward to going away\u201d<\/a> for the summer break, with \u201ca lot going on in the background that is not great\u201d.<\/p>\n Asked for his reaction to Hamilton\u2019s comments following last weekend\u2019s action at the Hungaroring, Mercedes boss Wolff said: \u201cThat is Lewis wearing his heart on his sleeve.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s what he thought very much when he was asked after the session. It was very raw. He was doubting himself.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had it in the past when he felt that he underperformed his own expectations. He\u2019s been that emotionally transparent since he was a young boy or a young adult. So, he\u2019s going to beat himself up.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s the GOAT and he will always be the GOAT, and nobody is going to take that away. For sure, no single weekend or race season that hasn\u2019t gone to plan. That\u2019s something he needs to always remember \u2013 he\u2019s the greatest of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n Wolff and Hamilton worked together at Mercedes from 2013 to 2024, a period that yielded six of the 40-year-old\u2019s seven world titles \u2013 the other achieved with McLaren back in 2008.<\/p>\n
