The success of an original Netflix movie? This is what it sounds like<\/a>. KPop Demon Hunters \u2014 the animated musical hit that debuted two fictional K-pop groups who are now in the top ten of the real Billboard<\/a> \u201cHot 100\u201d \u2014 continues to reach new heights in its seventh week in Netflix\u2019s top ten. With 158.8 million views since its release on June 20, the film is now the fourth most-watched English-language film on the streaming service. And since Netflix\u2019s charts are calculated based on the first 91 days of viewing, KPop Demon Hunters still has until mid-September to put Red Notice on notice, carry itself past Carry-On, or look down on Don\u2019t Look Up. (The records to beat are 230.9 million views, 172.1 million views, and 171.4 million views, respectively.)<\/p>\n

KPop Demon Hunters follows Huntr\/x, a girl group that uses the power of song to keep demons out of the human world and physically take down<\/a> threats such as the demonic boy band Saja Boys. The Wrap<\/a> reported on July 31 that Netflix was considering a stage musical, live-action remake, show, short film, and two sequels. But sources told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> that Netflix has no plans for a live-action version at the moment. Still, that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean it\u2019s time to say good-bye to this universe yet. \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be part of our lives for a bit,\u201d writer-director Maggie Kang told THR of her and co-director Chris Appelhans\u2019s future with the project. \u201cI don\u2019t see the fandom slowing down. We hit an all time high in viewership in week five, which is absolutely insane.\u201d Netflix film chairman Dan Lin added that Netflix is proud of KPop Demon Hunter\u2019s success and is excited to explore what could be the \u201cnext adventure\u201d for the demon-slaying girl group. Just don\u2019t expect a rush job \u2014\u00a0according to Lin, \u201cKPDH\u2019s success comes from its original, fresh story, so if we do embark on a sequel, we would want to take our time to make sure that any future stories we tell with our favorite demon hunters retain the flair and uniqueness of the first film.\u201d<\/p>\n
