The World Cup arrives in Canada in a few short months, and Brampton plans on getting ahead of the game.<\/p>\n
Known as \u201cSoccer City\u201d for the top-flight talent it has produced in recent years, Brampton will celebrate local players who have gone from neighbourhood pitches to join Canada\u2019s national team at a special event planned for March 26.<\/p>\n
Players such as Atiba Hutchinson, Cyle Larin, Doneil Henry, Jonathan Osorio, Paul Stalteri, Tajon Buchanan are expected to be in attendance and will help promote the city\u2019s launch of the \u201cWhere the Game Grows\u201d campaign, which will see soccer-inspired community activities taking place in the upcoming months.<\/p>\n
The World Cup takes place in cities across North America this year as Canada, Mexico and the United States play host to the tournament that will showcase the top soccer talent the world has to offer.<\/p>\n
Canada will host 13 matches, with six games scheduled for BMO Field in Toronto.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough community celebrations, fan experiences and local business participation, the campaign will showcase how Brampton has helped grow the game from neighbourhood parks to the international stage,\u201d according to a release from the City of Brampton. \u201cAs the global spotlight turns toward soccer in 2026, the Where the Game Grows campaign celebrates the players, stories and community pride that continue to shape the sport locally and globally.\u201d<\/p>\n
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the athletes, take part in autograph signings, enjoy light refreshments and participate in soccer-themed giveaways while celebrating Brampton\u2019s proud soccer legacy.<\/p>\n
The event takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Brampton City Hall.<\/p>\n
