The Boston Red Sox<\/a> have reportedly added some bullpen depth.<\/p>\n

Boston signed left-hander Danny Coulombe last week to an MLB contract, as he\u2019ll be in the bullpen come Opening Day. Yet, according to MLB insider<\/a> Jon Heyman, the Red Sox have inked veteran right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle to a minor-league deal.<\/p>\n

Kahnle has been a free agent since completing his one-year, $7.75 million deal with the Detroit Tigers.<\/p>\n

The New York Yankees drafted Kahnle in the fifth round of the 2010 MLB Draft, but he never made the roster as the Colorado Rockies picked him in the Rule 5 Draft in 2013.<\/p>\n

Kahnle has since pitched for the Chicago White Sox, the Yankees twice, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Tigers last season. He also pitched for Team Israel at the WBC.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old Kahnle has appeared in 456 career games and is 11-19 with a 3.61 ERA, including recording 17 saves. With the Tigers last season, the veteran went 1-5 with a 4.43 ERA in 66 games.<\/p>\n

Kahnle is a veteran reliever who used three pitches in 2025: a four-seam fastball, a changeup, and a slider. However, he only threw the slider four times, according to<\/a> Baseball Savant.<\/p>\n

The veteran right-hander will add some more depth to the Red Sox\u2019s system as he looks to earn a roster spot ahead of Opening Day.<\/p>\n

Boston is set to open its 2026 MLB season on March 26 against the Cincinnati Reds.<\/p>\n
