Montreal is getting ready for its 201st edition of the St. Patrick\u2019s Day parade. It is taking place this Sunday, March 22 at 12 p.m. and will begin on De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Guy Street. It is organized by the United Irish Societies of Montreal.<\/p>\n
Each year, the parade attracts thousands of people from across the city and around the world. This year\u2019s theme is \u201clittle shamrocks, big dreams\u201d, emphasizing the children and youth who carry on the tradition every year.<\/p>\n
The event is a celebration of the Irish community and the contributions they have made over the last two centuries. \u201cSt. Patrick\u2019s Day is more than just a parade, it is a celebration of community, tradition, and the spirit that helped build the city,\u201d said Leslie Roberts, city councillor of the Peter-McGill district, at a press conference on Monday morning.<\/p>\n
What began as a commemoration of Irish heritage has grown into a cornerstone of Montreal tradition. \u201cToday, the parade reflects on the spirit of Montreal itself: diverse, welcoming, and proud of the many cultures that make up our community,\u201d said Devin St James, director of the parade.<\/p>\n
The festivities are expected to be colourful and cheerful as always. Organizers and volunteers are working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.<\/p>\n
Bagpipes, dancers, and marching bands will fill the streets with music and energy. Community organizations, including the Shriners Hospital for Children, will also be there showing their support.
