{"id":544768,"date":"2026-03-18T15:35:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T15:35:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/544768\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T15:35:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T15:35:08","slug":"from-surrey-to-andreessen-horowitzs-speedrun-accelerator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/544768\/","title":{"rendered":"From Surrey to Andreessen Horowitz\u2019s Speedrun Accelerator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1849\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciIHZpZXdCb3g9IjAgMCAyNTYwIDE4NDkiIHdpZHRoPSIyNTYwIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjE4NDkiIGRhdGEtdT0iaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZ0ZWNoY291dmVyLmNvbSUyRndwLWNvbnRlbnQlMkZ1cGxvYWRzJTJGMjAyNiUyRjAzJTJGc3BlZWRydW4tY3JvcHBlZC1zY2FsZWQud2VicCIgZGF0YS13PSIyNTYwIiBkYXRhLWg9IjE4NDkiIGRhdGEtYmlwPSIiPjwvc3ZnPg==\" data-spai=\"1\" class=\"singular-image entry-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A Surrey-born founder is building what she believes is the next generation of sales software\u2014one designed for Instagram, not inboxes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/linkedin.com\/in\/harpriya\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harpriya Bagri<\/a>, a UBC-trained engineer and former machine learning engineer at LinkedIn, has launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotbox.app\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hotbox<\/a>, an AI-powered platform that helps businesses identify and convert high-intent leads directly from their social media activity.<\/p>\n<p>The startup was recently accepted into <a href=\"https:\/\/speedrun.a16z.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andreessen Horowitz\u2019s Speedrun accelerator<\/a>\u2014selecting fewer than 1% of applicants from roughly 19,000 companies\u2014and is among a small group of Canadian companies in the current cohort.<\/p>\n<p>Bagri says the idea behind Hotbox is rooted in a fundamental shift in how businesses are built.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a culture shift happening right now,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hotbox.app\/announcement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">she explains<\/a>. \u201cBusinesses today no longer start by creating a website or having an email address; they start with an Instagram account.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That shift has created a gap.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past year, we\u2019ve seen social commerce grow at an unprecedented rate, but the infrastructure hasn\u2019t followed,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Hotbox is designed to fill that void. The platform analyzes activity across likes, comments, and direct messages, researches the profiles behind those interactions, and surfaces high-intent leads. It can then \u201cagentically engage\u201d with those prospects\u2014bringing the structure of a traditional CRM into a social-first, algorithm-driven environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese tools already exist for an email-based world,\u201d Bagri says. \u201cBut they don\u2019t exist for the algorithm one we\u2019re shifting to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The idea was born from firsthand experience. While leading growth at Respell\u2014since acquired by Salesforce\u2014Bagri built viral AI content that drove significant inbound interest through her DMs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy DMs exploded, but not just with buyers,\u201d she says. \u201cSome messages were a single fire emoji\u2026 and just a few were serious leads worth six figures each, buried in the noise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hotbox aims to surface those opportunities automatically, helping founders and businesses turn social engagement into structured pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>Bagri\u2019s background spans both deep technical research and growth execution.
