{"id":545272,"date":"2026-03-18T20:49:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T20:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/545272\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T20:49:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T20:49:09","slug":"former-mike-tyson-trainer-teddy-atlas-delivers-verdict-on-mayweather-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/545272\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Mike Tyson trainer Teddy Atlas delivers verdict on Mayweather fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hall of Fame coach Teddy Atlas, who previously worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/boxer\/mike-tyson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Tyson<\/a>, has offered his thoughts on the former heavyweight champion\u2019s exhibition match with Floyd Mayweather.<\/p>\n<p>It was reported earlier this year that the two boxing legends are set to enter a non-competitive bout in the Congo, with their event originally slated for April 25.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/injury-puts-tyson-vs-mayweather-in-doubt\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an injury to Tyson<\/a> has caused many to speculate whether the show will still take place, especially with Mayweather having announced his rematch against Manny Pacquiao.<\/p>\n<p>The fight against Pacquiao, which is set to be sanctioned as a professional contest, will be staged at the Sphere, Las Vegas, on September 19.<\/p>\n<p>Before that, Mayweather has also agreed to an exhibition with Greek kickboxer Mike Zambidis in June. The details surrounding his potential meeting with Tyson remain unclear, though the former undisputed heavyweight champion has recently said it will happen \u2013 his first outing since a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/42352328\/mike-tyson-vs-jake-paul-live-boxing-updates-results-analysis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">controversial fight with Jake Paul<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betvictor.com\/en-gb\/casino\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BetVictor<\/a>, Atlas \u2013 who assisted legendary coach Cus D\u2019Amato in training a young Tyson before a bitter split \u2013 gave an overall damning verdict on the exhibition match, believing it is nothing more than a \u201cmoney grab\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather is just a money grab. It\u2019s not an athletic venture; it\u2019s no longer an athletic contest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t even go deep to say if it\u2019s preordained, scripted, or WWE-like, which maybe some people thought with the Paul-Tyson fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t go that deep. I just say that sometimes fights in my world were about competitiveness. They were about who\u2019s better\u2026 about answering a question for the fans but, more importantly, for the participants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho\u2019s better? Who\u2019s up to the challenge? Who can be greater? Who can dig further?
