Police are investigating after a person was struck and killed by a GO train on the Lakeshore West line between Toronto and Mississauga on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The person, whose age and gender have not been released, was hit by the train at a location somewhere between Long Branch GO station in Toronto and Port Credit GO station in Mississauga, a transit spokesperson told INsauga.com.<\/p>\n

Metrolinx, the provincial agency in charge of GO Transit, said in an email statement \u201cthis is now a confirmed fatality.\u201d The transit authority also confirmed it was a GO train that struck the person.<\/p>\n

Peel Regional Police, while not revealing exactly where the person was struck by the train, said a \u201clarge police presence\u201d remains in the area of Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street in Mississauga\u2019s south end.<\/p>\n

Police responded to the call at around 2:45 p.m., Peel police said.<\/p>\n

Fourth Street is closed from Ogden Avenue to Alexandra Avenue while Alexandra Avenue is shut down from Fourth Street to Lakeshore Road East, according to police on the scene.<\/p>\n

Motorists are told to avoid the area and use alternate routes. For those in the vicinity of the accident, they can expect delays, police added.<\/p>\n

Metrolinx said \u201cthere is currently no train service operating through the area. Train service will operate between Long Branch and Union Station stations (in Toronto). Train service will also operate between Port Credit GO and stations west (up to Niagara), with bus shuttles running between Port Credit and Long Branch stations.\u201d<\/p>\n
