<\/p>\nA Canadian rookie is turning heads on one of golf\u2019s biggest stages. Sudarshan Yellamaraju is tied for fifth at The Players Championship. But long before competing at TPC Sawgrass, part of his golf journey included time practicing inside Winnipeg\u2019s Golf Dome.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had a phenomenal 2025 season with multiple wins, earning his tour card, so this continued success, while it\u2019s exciting, it\u2019s not surprising based on who he is as a young man,\u201d said Paul Perrier, the Chief Sport Officer for Golf Canada.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old finished nine-under par for the week, including a four-under final round on Sunday, securing his first career top ten finish on the PGA Tour, and while the performance may be new to some fans, Golf Canada says it\u2019s something they\u2019ve been expecting.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you have his championship mindset, his determination, the belief, and pair it with the support and resources, the sky\u2019s the limit, and he\u2019s a great example of that,\u201d said Perrier.<\/p>\n

Part of that journey started in Winnipeg, where Yellamaraju first developed his game, something Golf Manitoba said didn\u2019t follow the traditional route, making his success even more inspiring.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe started his golf career right here at the golf dome in Winnipeg. So, a pretty neat story to see someone with some Winnipeg routes succeed at that stage is pretty exciting,\u201d said Jared Ladobruk, the executive director of Golf Manitoba.<\/p>\n
For those who saw his development firsthand, the foundation was built long before the spotlight. Ashoak Grewal says much of Yellamaraju\u2019s game was built alongside his family, with a focus on discipline and consistency, even being his former high school coach and driving him to events.<\/p>\n
\u201cI met Sudarshan and his father when he was in Grade 7,\u201d said Grewal. \u201cThe main thing was seeing him and his father\u2019s dedication; they practiced at a young age. I remember when we played, he practiced like a pro. They practiced for hours and hours, and it was very disciplined.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now that work ethic is translating on the PGA Tour, many believe this is just the beginning.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going to see his name there for a long time because his work effort, and family commitment, and the amount of support he has from his parents. It\u2019s incredible,\u201d said Grewal.<\/p>\n
Perrier adding, \u201cIf you saw his comment at the end of the players about confidence and belief there\u2019s no limits on people like that, so we are going to hear his name for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n
