<\/p>\nPolice have confirmed a young boy was the victim of a fatal train collision on Wednesday \u2013 the second child killed by a train in Mississauga in the last four years.<\/p>\n
The child was struck and killed by a GO train on the Lakeshore West line between Long Branch GO station in Toronto and Port Credit GO station in Mississauga, a transit spokesperson told INsauga.com.<\/p>\n
Peel Regional Police have confirmed the child was believed to be 12 or 13 years old.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an absolutely horrible situation for the family involved,\u201d PRP spokesperson Const. Tyler Bell-Morena told reporters on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
He said evidence suggests the boy was with another child when he went around the barrier and was struck by the train close to Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street.<\/p>\n
Police said a \u201clarge police presence\u201d remains in the area of Alexandra Avenue and Fourth Street in Mississauga\u2019s south end.<\/p>\n

Police responded to the call at around 2:45 p.m.<\/a>, Peel police said.<\/p>\n Fourth Street is closed from Ogden Avenue to Alexandra Avenue while Alexandra Avenue is shut down from Fourth Street to Lakeshore Road East, according to police on the scene.<\/p>\n Motorists are told to avoid the area and use alternate routes. For those in the vicinity of the accident, they can expect delays, police added.<\/p>\n The collision has also caused delays, with shuttle buses running between Port Credit and Long Branch stations.<\/p>\n Another child was\u00a0struck and killed by a GO Train heading west from the Dixie Station on July 26, 2022, in the Dundas St. and Cawthra Rd. area of Mississauga.<\/p>\n Four-year-old Mitchell Nwabuoku\u00a0was playing and chasing a butterfly on the grounds of the apartment where her cousins lived in Mississauga. A footpath led to the tracks<\/a> where people crossed as a shortcut to Dundas Street. Fencing has since been erected.<\/p>\n
