Police in Durham region have issued\u00a0an arrest warrant for a 35-year-old man<\/a>\u00a0accused of orchestrating a fraudulent business scheme that cost an investor more than $200,000 in Durham Region.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to investigators<\/a>\u00a0with the Financial Crimes Unit, the case began in late January 2026 after a complaint from a victim who had been convinced to invest in what was presented as a promising trucking and transportation startup. The suspect allegedly claimed he had secured a $1 million business loan and had multiple transportation contracts already in place.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Believing the opportunity was legitimate, the victim\u00a0reportedly\u00a0agreed\u00a0to partner in the venture and\u00a0was convinced to\u00a0transfer\u00a0$200K\u00a0to support startup costs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, investigators later determined that the banking\u00a0and business contracts\u00a0were entirely fraudulent. Police say no such loan\u00a0existed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Authorities have identified the suspect as\u00a0Sahil Thakur, of Brampton. He is wanted on multiple charges, including fraud over $5,000, obtaining funds by false pretences, and possession of\u00a0proceeds of\u00a0property obtained by crime.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police have released a photo of the accused and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact investigators or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The allegations have not been proven in court, and the investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
