A new ranking just put a spotlight on the friendliest retirement towns across the Prairies, highlighting one Alberta spot where golden years come with a warm welcome.\u00a0<\/p>\n

World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, released a list of the eight friendliest retirement spots in the Prairies, and Lacombe made the cut.<\/p>\n

Located just north of Red Deer, Lacombe is a charming town, known for its character and historic architecture. The settlement of Lacombe dates back to the construction of the Calgary-to-Edmonton railway line.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The townsite was named after Father Albert Lacombe. It was incorporated as a town in 1902<\/a> and a city in 2010. One of the city\u2019s most drawing features is its preserved historic downtown<\/a>\u00a0as well as its welcoming atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For retirees, Lacombe offers plenty to do. Golfers can enjoy the nearby Gull Lake Golf Course or Haunted Lakes Golf Club and Campgrounds, while those who like to keep active can take advantage of the Lacombe Kinsmen Aquatic Centre, which offers senior-friendly programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

World Atlas also highlights the Lacombe Memorial Centre, home to concerts, craft shows, and community gatherings and the Mary C. Moore Public Library and the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre, which offer year-round music, theatre and creative workshops, perfect for people of all ages to get out of the house and enjoy some entertainment.<\/p>\n

Only two other Alberta spots made the cut. Drumheller, which was touted for its iconic attractions like the Royal Tyrell Dinosaur Museum, and Camrose for its relaxed atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n
