{"id":548045,"date":"2026-03-20T02:10:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T02:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/548045\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T02:10:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T02:10:07","slug":"islanders-planning-to-move-ahl-affiliate-to-hamilton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/548045\/","title":{"rendered":"Islanders planning to move AHL affiliate to Hamilton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK \u2014 The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/new-york-islanders\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"new-york-islanders\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Islanders<\/a> plan on moving their American Hockey League affiliate from Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Hamilton, Ontario, for next season, the franchise announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The relocation requires approval by the AHL Board of Governors.<\/p>\n<p>Should the move be permitted, the team currently known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/ahl\/teams\/bridgeport-islanders\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"bridgeport-islanders\" data-league=\"ahl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bridgeport Islanders<\/a> will play at TD Coliseum in Hamilton, which completed major renovations last fall.<\/p>\n<p>A team name, logo and ticketing information for the Hamilton market will be announced at a later date, pending AHL approval, the franchise said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to make Hamilton our primary affiliate in the American Hockey League,\u201d Islanders general manager and executive vice president Mathieu Darche said in a statement. \u201cThe support the city has shown our organization throughout this transition has been incredible.
