{"id":549584,"date":"2026-03-20T19:07:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T19:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/549584\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T19:07:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T19:07:07","slug":"impaired-charges-laid-after-woman-killed-in-west-end-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/549584\/","title":{"rendered":"Impaired charges laid after woman killed in west end crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police are investigating a serious collision that left a woman dead in Ottawa\u2019s west end on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said the incident happened around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawapolice.ca\/en\/news\/man-charged-with-impaired-driving-following-fatal-collision.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">7:15 p.m. between a passenger van and a sedan on Carling Avenue near Ullswater Drive<\/a>, just west of Andrew Haydon Park. <\/p>\n<p>As a result of the crash, a 52-year-old woman was found dead at the scene. There were no other passengers or injured people, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Officials charged Vicente Ramos, 31, is charged with impaired operation causing death and dangerous operation causing death.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice are continuing the investigation, including processing the scene and examining the vehicles involved to determine the factors that led to the collision,\u201d the press release reads.<\/p>\n<p>Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage to speak to police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis incident is a heartbreaking reminder that impaired driving can have devastating, irreversible consequences,\u201d police said. \u201cOne decision can take a life and forever change the lives of families, friends, and entire communities. Please plan ahead, make safe choices, and always drive sober.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.citynews.ca\/2026\/01\/05\/impaired-driving-charges-in-ottawa-rise-slightly-in-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Impaired charges laid in Ottawa were slightly increased year-over-year<\/a>.
