Residents of Mississauga, Toronto and elsewhere in the western GTA are reminded that the GO trains won\u2019t run this weekend on a normally busy section of the Lakeshore West line.<\/p>\n

In order to make \u201cessential improvements\u201d to the route, the trains will be taken out of service all day Saturday and Sunday between Union Station in downtown Toronto and Aldershot GO in Burlington, Metrolinx, the provincial agency in charge of GO Transit, said in an email update Friday morning.<\/p>\n

That means no trains will be running during that period in west Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville and Burlington.<\/p>\n

The transit agency noted there will also be some \u201clate-night service adjustments\u201d in place tonight (Friday).<\/p>\n

Regular service will resume on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Transit officials said GO trains will run on the Lakeshore West line between Niagara Falls and Aldershot GO this Saturday and Sunday. However, they added, trains regularly scheduled to begin and end at Confederation and West Harbour stations in Hamilton will not run.<\/p>\n

The two-day service shutdown is necessary \u201cto accommodate critical track work,\u201d Metrolinx said, adding \u201cthese track closures are required to make essential improvements to bring (riders) better, faster and more frequent trips.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officials said GO customers should take note of the following this weekend:<\/p>\n

GO replacement buses will operate, making stops at West Harbour, Aldershot, Burlington, Oakville and Clarkson GO stations, then run express to Union Station Bus Terminal in Toronto.
\nThere will be no GO Transit service at all to or from Appleby, Bronte, Port Credit, Long Branch, Mimico or Exhibition GO stations. Customers travelling to and from those stations are encouraged to use local transit options like the TTC or MiWay.<\/p>\n

Metrolinx said the \u201cplanned construction\u201d is taking place along the Lakeshore West corridor as part of GO expansion plans, with work continuing at Long Branch GO and on the Burloak Drive underpass.<\/p>\n

\u201cCrews are also doing rehabilitation infrastructure work that\u2019s critical for maintaining safe and reliable service on the Lakeshore West line, including work at the Etobicoke Creek bridge and Bronte Creek,\u201d the agency added in its update on Friday. \u201cThis work can only be completed when train service is modified.\u201d<\/p>\n
