President & CEO Pat Davis said partnering with CSE allows BCLC to amplify that focus\u00a0on bringing people together \u2013 whether\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0through\u00a0a Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Warriors, or Abbotsford Canucks games, or\u00a0Community Connect: Nourish the\u00a0Neighbourhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0rare when you get an opportunity to do\u00a0eventsat\u00a0this scale in a community, and partnering with the Canucks\u00a0provides\u00a0a\u00a0really good\u00a0opportunity to do that,\u201d Davis said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe talk about how the profits of play with BCLC support health care, education, and not-for-profits, but when\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0actually here\u00a0\u2013 seeing the people that are receiving those services and\u00a0are able to\u00a0interact with them \u2013 it really strikes to the core of who we are.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alex Oxenham, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of the Canucks for Kids Fund, said the event reflects the organization\u2019s commitment to creating authentic connections within the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s\u00a0so many deserving people in this community, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0excited to have people here and work with our partners at BCLC to put this together. This is not just a grab-and-go meal; this is a home-cooked,\u00a0made-with-love meal, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0excited to serve it to all the guests today,\u201d Oxenham said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Guests were brought together through the help of several local community not-for-profits, including YWCA Crabtree Corner, Lookout Housing, Greater Vancouver Food Bank, the Kettle Society, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission,\u00a0Whole Way House, Canucks Family Education Centre and A Better Life Foundation\u00a0\u2013 a charity that provides meals to marginalized communities, as well as opportunities for training and employment.\u00a0A Better Life\u00a0make\u00a02,000 meals daily for individuals living in single-room occupancies\u00a0(SROs), shelters, and other community spaces, and the foundation has served over six million meals to date.\u00a0<\/p>\n
