{"id":550246,"date":"2026-03-21T02:02:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T02:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/550246\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T02:02:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T02:02:08","slug":"charge-upgraded-to-second-degree-murder-after-weekend-homicide-in-surrey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/550246\/","title":{"rendered":"Charge upgraded to second-degree murder after weekend homicide in Surrey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 29-year-old man\u2019s charge in connection with a <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouver.citynews.ca\/2026\/03\/15\/surrey-police-ihit-homicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">fatal shooting in Surrey over the weekend<\/a> has been upgraded from manslaughter to second-degree murder, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says officers were called to a home on Laurel Drive near 139th Street around 1:40 a.m. Sunday, after receiving reports of shots fired.<\/p>\n<p>A man, also 29 years old, was found inside suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was taken into custody and was initially charged with manslaughter with a weapon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"574\" data-id=\"4405782\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/1774058528_812_2026-03-15T21_00_16__6360000-04_00_8797772316666-e1773639261579-1024x574.jpg\" alt=\"Surrey Police on scene of a shooting on Sunday March 15, 2026. (CityNews Image)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upgrading of the charge in this investigation is a result of continued efforts by the investigative team and our partners,\u201d IHIT Sgt.
