March 20 (Reuters) \u2013 The Women\u2019s National Basketball Association Union announced on Friday it has reached a tentative agreement \u200bon a collective bargaining deal that \u200cwill introduce the first revenue-sharing model in women\u2019s professional sports history.<\/p>\n
The seven-year agreement, which runs from 2026 through 2032, comes following nearly 17 \u200cmonths \u200bof negotiations after the \u2060WNBPA opted out of \u2060the previous CBA in October 2024.<\/p>\n
The deal is projected to deliver more than $1 billion in player salaries and benefits. \u200bThe salary cap will jump from $1.5 million to $7 million. Maximum-contract players will earn $1.4 \u2060million in 2026, a \u2060figure expected to grow to \u200bmore than $2.4 million by 2032.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Collective Bargaining \u200bAgreement represents a defining moment in the \u200cWNBA\u2019s 30-year history and all of women\u2019s professional sports,\u201d WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The deal codifies league-wide \u2060charter air travel, expands roster sizes to 12 players, adds two developmental spots, and includes \u2060a new \u200crookie contract scale with the \u2060number one overall pick in \u200b2026 \u200cprojected to earn $500,000.<\/p>\n
The regular season \u200bwill also \u2060expand, with up to 50 games scheduled for 2027 and 2028, and up to 52 games from 2029 through 2032.<\/p>\n
