{"id":550967,"date":"2026-03-21T10:20:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T10:20:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/550967\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T10:20:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T10:20:09","slug":"olympic-boxing-champion-lin-to-compete-in-first-international-event-since-paris-gender-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/550967\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympic boxing champion Lin to compete in first international event since Paris gender row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Olympic boxing champion Lin Yu-ting has been cleared to compete in the female category at World Boxing events, Chinese Taipei\u2019s boxing association said Saturday, hailing the news as a \u201ctremendous relief\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif were embroiled in a gender row at the 2024 Paris Games, where they won Olympic titles in separate weight classes.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">World Boxing, a body recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), confirmed the decision to allow Lin back into the ring after its medical experts ruled that the 30-year-old athlete was female.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The decision means Lin can compete in the Asian Boxing Championships in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar starting March 28, her first international event since Paris.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cWe are pleased that World Boxing\u2019s independent medical experts thoroughly reviewed all evidence and confirmed that she has been female since birth,\u201d Chinese Taipei\u2019s boxing association said in a statement, describing the decision as a \u201ctremendous relief\u201d for Lin.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Lin \u201cwill make her highly anticipated return to the ring at the Asian Boxing Championships\u201d, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Algeria\u2019s Imane Khelif was also embroiled in a gender row at the 2024 Paris Games.
