{"id":551346,"date":"2026-03-21T14:26:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T14:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/551346\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T14:26:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T14:26:13","slug":"darlington-nascar-cup-qualifying-full-order-after-lineup-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/551346\/","title":{"rendered":"Darlington NASCAR Cup qualifying, full order after lineup change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"81\">Race number six on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series schedule is the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, which is also scheduled to host the opening race of the new-look &#8220;Chase&#8221; playoffs in September.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"84\">The egg-shaped Darlington, South Carolina oval is a four-turn, 1.366-mile (2.198-kilometer) intermediate track, meaning that NASCAR is set to use its standard qualifying format to determine the 37-car starting lineup for Sunday&#8217;s 297-lap race.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"87\">Each of the 37 drivers on the Goodyear 400 entry list is set to make a single-lap attempt during the single-car qualifying session, and those speeds are set to determine the full starting lineup; there is no second round shootout for the pole position like there is for superspeedway races, and there is no second qualifying lap like there is for short track races.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8a\">The qualifying order for Sunday afternoon&#8217;s race was determined by the two-variable metric that NASCAR has used since the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8d\">This formula, which can be <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondtheflag.com\/nascar-determine-qualifying-orders-full-2026-metric-breakdown-01kht01rcjc2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found in more detail here<\/a>, replaced the more complicated formula that was used by NASCAR from 2020 to 2024, and it factors in each car&#8217;s finish in the most recent race as well as its position in the <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondtheflag.com\/nascar-cup-series-standings\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">owner standings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"8g\">The only change to the entry list since this past weekend&#8217;s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the fact that Garage 66 are set to field the No. 66 Ford for the <a href=\"https:\/\/beyondtheflag.com\/nascar-cup-series-team-withdraws-atlanta-race-01khq4j3gf2f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first time since the season-opening Daytona 500<\/a> at Daytona International Speedway.
