{"id":551754,"date":"2026-03-21T18:54:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T18:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/551754\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T18:54:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T18:54:26","slug":"man-accused-of-transporting-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/551754\/","title":{"rendered":"Man accused of transporting family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">BUFFALO, New York (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wkbw.com\/news\/local-news\/man-accused-of-transporting-a-family-from-canada-to-grand-island-on-a-raft\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WKBW<\/a>) &#8211; The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdny\/pr\/illegal-alien-mexico-charged-alien-smuggling\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdny\/pr\/illegal-alien-mexico-charged-alien-smuggling\">announced<\/a> that 27-year-old Andres Carrillo-Hernandez, a citizen of Mexico, was arrested and charged by criminal complaint with alien smuggling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Carrillo-Hernandez is accused of transporting a man, woman and child on a raft from the Canadian shoreline at Boyers Creek to near a residence on West River Road on Grand Island on March 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office said Carillo-Hernandez admitted to being paid US$2,000 to help the family cross the Niagara River into the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to the criminal complaint, the family was from the UK and Ireland. They were also arrested for illegal entry into the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Carillo-Hernandez was charged with alien smuggling, which carries a mandatory minimum penalty of three years in prison and a max of 10. He made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J.
