Cryptocurrency creators are now taking credit for throwing sex toys onto the court at multiple WNBA games, saying they intended to stir up controversy and promote their memecoin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The self-confessed dildo-throwers say they launched the memecoin Green Dildo Coin on the Ethereum blockchain on July 28, a day before the first dildo-tossing incident. After Barstool Sports reported<\/a> on the group\u2019s identity on Wednesday, the price of the coin skyrocketed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew that in order to get a voice in the space … we had to go out and do some viral stunts to save us from having to pay that influencer cabal, sacrifice our souls and the fate of the project,\u201d X user @Daldo_Rain, a spokesperson for the crypto group,\u00a0told USA Today Sports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Neon\u00a0green sex toys have been thrown<\/a>\u00a0from the crowd during WNBA games multiple times<\/a> in recent weeks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The first incident happened on July 29 at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia, and seven similar incidents followed, with the latest happening on Thursday at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago.<\/p>\n

Two men were\u00a0arrested<\/a> for allegedly throwing sex toys, but the crypto group spokesperson told USA Today that those people were not connected with Green Dildo Coin.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson also said the group did not mean to harm anyone and claimed they created the memecoin to protest against \u201ctoxic\u201d crypto culture, in which smaller players are struggling to keep up with influencers.<\/p>\n

But the WNBA has been in an uproar over the toxicity of the prank itself<\/a>, which players and fans have called out as disrespectful, pleading for it to end.<\/p>\n

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham<\/a> wrote on X, \u201cstop throwing dildos on the court\u2026 you\u2019re going to hurt one of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease do better. It\u2019s not funny. never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous,\u201d the New York Liberty\u2019s Isabelle Harrison wrote on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chicago Sky center Elizabeth Williams\u00a0told reporters<\/a>, \u201cit\u2019s super disrespectful,\u201d after a sex toy was thrown during her game against the Golden State Valkyries on Aug. 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really get the point of it. It\u2019s really immature. Whoever\u2019s doing it just needs to grow up,\u201d Williams said.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Donald Trump Jr. chimed in,mocking the controversy with an AI-generated image of his dad throwing a green sex toy onto an WNBA court from the White House roof<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan pointed out the irony of Trump Jr.\u2019s post.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember these are the same people who bash trans people because they care about \u2018women\u2019s sports,\u2019\u201d he wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cEr, ok.\u201d<\/p>\n

The crypto group\u2019s spokesperson told USA Today, \u201cWe didn\u2019t do this because, like, we dislike women\u2019s sports or, like, some of the narratives that are trending right now are ridiculous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCreating disruption at games is like, it happens in every single sport, right? We\u2019ve seen it in the NFL, we\u2019ve seen it in hockey, you know . . . fans doing random things to more or less create attention,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson went on to say there will be more pranks moving forward, but claimed, \u201cthey\u2019re a lot lighter. They\u2019re a lot more tasteful.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
