{"id":552255,"date":"2026-03-22T00:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-22T00:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/552255\/"},"modified":"2026-03-22T00:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-22T00:58:11","slug":"max-verstappen-denied-nurburgring-victory-after-disqualification-for-tyre-blunder-max-verstappen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/552255\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Verstappen denied N\u00fcrburgring victory after disqualification for tyre blunder | Max Verstappen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Max Verstappen took a break from a frustrating Formula One season by driving in a four-hour race at the N\u00fcrburgring in Germany on Saturday where he won only to be disqualified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Dutch four-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/formulaone\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula One<\/a> champion has said he plans to race in the 24 Hours of N\u00fcrburgring in May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Competing in the GT3 class, Verstappen grabbed pole position on the full 24.358km configuration of the N\u00fcrburgring by nearly two seconds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Splitting time with his co-drivers, Frenchman Jules Gounon and Spaniard Daniel Juncadella, at the wheel of a Mercedes sporting Red Bull livery and run by the Winward team, Verstappen helped steer his car to victory by almost a minute before officials intervened.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The car was disqualified for using seven sets of tyres during the race. Only six are permitted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe disqualification is tough to take,\u201d Winward team principal, Christian Hohenadel, told Motorsport.com. \u201cUnfortunately, we made an internal error that left the stewards with no choice but to exclude the winning car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Verstappen was sixth in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2026\/mar\/08\/f1-australian-grand-prix-george-russell-wins-mercedes-formula-one-race#:~:text=George%20Russell%20wins%20Australian%20GP%20after%20thrilling%20fight%20with%20Ferrari%20in%20season%20opener&amp;text=Formula%20One%202026,The%20Guardian\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">season-opening Australian Grand Prix<\/a> before failing to finish in Shanghai last Sunday.
