Draisaitl receiving treatment in Germany, hopeful Oilers can \u2018keep playing long enough\u2019 so he can \u2018step in\u2019<\/p>\n
Edmonton Oilers<\/a> superstar Leon Draisaitl<\/a> is in Germany receiving treatment for a lower-body injury, and is hopeful to return to the lineup \u201csoon.\u201dIn an interview with\u00a0Sky News\u2019 Michael Leopold, Draisaitl revealed he will remain in Munich until next Tuesday. When asked if he\u2019ll be ready to return to the Oilers\u2019 lineup<\/a> in time for the playoffs, Draisaitl was somewhat coy.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope so \u2013 that\u2019s the plan, which is why I\u2019m here right now,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019ll certainly take a few weeks, that\u2019s for sure, but I hope we can keep playing long enough for me to be able to step in and help out at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n A tweet from\u00a0Sky News\u2019 Ben Heckner, which revealed the interview, indicated Draisaitl is receiving treatment from \u201cwell-known sports doctor\u201d Dr. Hans-Wilhelm M\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udea8 Sky exclusive: Leon #Draisaitl<\/a> is currently in Munich receiving treatment for his injury from well known sports doctor Dr. M\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt. I hope we go far enough so I can help the team again.\u201d \u00a0Show more<\/a><\/p>\n Dr. M\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt worked as the long-time team physician of FC Bayern Munich for 41 years, and runs his own sports medicine practice. In his biography on his the clinic\u2019s website<\/a>, he\u2019s described as relying \u201con his sense of touch in his diagnoses,\u201d and that \u201cwhen treating his patients, he uses only biological and homeopathic substances.\u201dA 2011 article<\/a> from\u00a0ESPN\u2019s Mike Fish described Dr. M\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt as a celebrity sports doctor who \u201cranks as either the greatest healer since Hippocrates or is a quack with a hyperactive syringe.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cM\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt isn\u2019t an ordinary doctor, and his treatment methods at first blush sound dangerously primitive,\u201d wrote Fish. \u201cThough conventionally trained in medicine and orthopedics, he practices a unique mixture of homeopathic medicine \u2014 treatment with natural substances \u2014 and acupuncture.<\/p>\n \u201cThe lifeblood of his treatments is what M\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt calls \u2018infiltrations,\u2019 in which homeopathic preparations and other substances are injected into the injury site: exotic stuff like Actovegin, an amino acid preparation derived from calves\u2019 blood, and lubricating substances containing purified hyaluronic acid and antioxidants.\u201d<\/p>\n Actovegin has not been approved for any use in Canada, or the United States, and while available in Europe, is not on the IOC banned substance list, nor the NHL\u2019s banned substance list, according to The Toronto Sun<\/a>. There\u2019s no evidence to suggest that Draisaitl is receiving such treatment in Germany.<\/p>\n M\u00fcller-Wohlfahrt treated Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews in Germany in November 2024, according to the Toronto Sun, and has treated other sports stars like Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt, and Tiger Woods, as well as celebrities like Bono.<\/p>\n Draisaitl was injured in last Sunday\u2019s game<\/a> against the Nashville Predators when forward Ozzy Wiesblatt<\/a> laid a seemingly inncouous hit on him along the boards.
