Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was taken to hospital on Saturday night in Ottawa.<\/p>\n
Stolarz, who was in line to start against the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre, took a shot to the throat from teammate William Nylander during warmup and departed from the ice immediately.<\/p>\n
The Leafs said in a post on X that Stolarz was taken to hospital<\/a> for precautionary imaging. Coach Craig Berube told media in Ottawa, following the Leafs\u2019 5-2 loss, that Stolarz would meet the team at the plane to travel back to Toronto.<\/p>\n With Stolarz unable to play, Joseph Woll started for the Leafs, 24 hours after he was in net for Toronto\u2019s 4-3 loss in overtime<\/a> at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.<\/p>\n Berube was pointed in his criticism of Woll, who allowed four goals on 36 shots, after the game on Friday. One Hurricanes goal came on a penalty shot by Eric Robinson, while defenceman K\u2019Andre Miller scored on a breakaway while Carolina was shorthanded.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s played well, but tonight in the end \u2014 I don\u2019t think, I know \u2014 we need a save, whether it\u2019s in the OT or it\u2019s one of the breakaways,\u201d Berube said. \u201cWe need a big save there.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s the first time Woll has started in back-to-back days during his National Hockey League career.<\/p>\n Per Sportsnet Stats on X<\/a>, he most recently did it on March 19 and 20, 2021, while he was with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.<\/p>\n For Woll, it was his sixth start in seven games. Since Feb. 2, Woll had a record of 1-5-2 in eight games going into Saturday.<\/p>\n There was no immediate word on the identity of an emergency backup goalie for the Leafs if Woll was injured against the Senators. If Stolarz is out for any length of time, either Dennis Hildeby or Artur Akhtyamov would be recalled from the Marlies.<\/p>\n
