Maple Leafs\u2019 Anthony Stolarz released from hospital after taking puck to throat in warmups<\/p>\n

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz has been released from hospital after suffering an injury in warmups. He was projected to start Saturday\u2019s game against the Ottawa Senators, but was ruled out of the contest after taking a William Nylander shot off the mask in warmup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz was released from hospital following precautionary imaging and will return to Toronto with the team.<\/p>\n

Joseph Woll took over for him despite having played the previous night against the Carolina Hurricanes. Anthony Urban served as the emergency backup goalie for the Leafs in Ottawa, though his services were not needed on the night.<\/p>\n

Head coach Craig Berube told reporters after the game<\/a> that Stolarz left the hospital and was able to rejoin the team on the flight back home, but didn\u2019t know what it means for his status. Nylander was remorsful<\/a> for his actions and texted Stolarz to check in on his netminder.This marks the latest ailment that Stolarz has dealt with, after being out of the lineup for more than two months due to a nerve issue<\/a> he suffered during a game against the Boston Bruins on November 11. He didn\u2019t skate for well over a month due to suffering a setback in his recovery from said ailment and saw a specialist for consultation before carefully working his way back into practice sessions.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how severe this most recent injury is for Stolarz, but we can expect to see Woll get the bulk of the starts for the time being as Stolarz works his way back. Expect the Leafs to bring up Dennis Hildeby if Stolarz needs to be on the sidelines for a significant period of time.<\/p>\n

Woll is coming off a 32-save performance in Friday\u2019s loss, saving 0.47 goals above expected<\/a> in all situations on a night where Carolina out-attempted Toronto 78-43. Despite this heroic performance that secured the Leafs a point they otherwise didn\u2019t deserve, Berube was critical of his starter\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s played well,\u201d Berube said of Woll. \u201cTonight, in the end, I think \u2014 I don\u2019t think; I know \u2014 that we need a save, whether it is the OT or one of the breakaways. You just need a big save there.\u201d<\/p>\n
