One less Canadian is in contention at the Canadian Open.<\/p>\n
Leylah Fernandez dropped a third-round match 6-2, 6-2 against fifth-seeded American Jessica Pegula on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Montreal’s Fernandez, seeded 26th, had just two break-point opportunities and failed to convert both times. She was broken four times in the straight-sets loss.<\/p>\n
Pegula, who was coming off a walkover win in the Round of 64, will next face the winner of a match between No. 11 Ekaterina Alexandrova and No. 34 Jacqueline Cristian.<\/p>\n
Her loss leaves Felix Auger-Aliassime and Victoria Mboko as the lone Canadians still competing in singles play at the 1,000-level tournament.<\/p>\n
Mboko will face her doubles partner Mirra Andreeva of Russia in a Round of 16 match on Monday.<\/p>\n
Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime will face France’s Terence Atmane in a Round of 32 match in the men’s singles tournament on Monday.<\/p>\n
