Six riverfront lots on Roxboro Road SW have been listed by Alberta Infrastructure, ranging in price from $1.75 million to $3 million. The parcels are designed for residential development. <\/p>\n
June 2013 was devastating for southern Alberta as a result of catastrophic flooding across the Rocky Mountains and Foothills that caused a rapid rise to the levels of the Elbow and Bow Rivers. <\/p>\n
During that time, over 100,000 people were evacuated, major infrastructure was damaged, and entire neighbourhoods along the Elbow River flooded. <\/p>\n
After that, the provincial government began to implement a long-term flood mitigation strategy. As part of that strategy, 17 properties in areas deemed \u2018high-risk\u2019 were bought by the province. <\/p>\n

Since that time, major flood mitigation work has taken place, thanks to funding from the province and the City of Calgary. <\/p>\n
The most notable of those projects and the Springbank Off-Stream Reservoir, located west of the city in Springbank. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s designed to temporarily store floodwater during extreme rainfall and reduces downstream flood risk to communities in Calgary. <\/p>\n
During major storms, water from the Elbow is diverted into the reservoir, where it is stored until river levels go down and it can be safely released. <\/p>\n
Because of this, the lots up for sale are no longer considered to be in the floodway. <\/p>\n
