PHOENIX, Ariz. \u2013 The University of Hawai’i women’s golf team opened the PING ASU Invitational on Monday, posting a first-round team total of 308 (+20) at Papago Golf Club. The Rainbow Wahine currently sit in 15th place heading into Tuesday’s second round.

\nJasmine Wong<\/a> paced the UH lineup, carding a 2-over-par 74 to finish the day in a tie for 37th place. Wong’s round included steady play on the 6,570-yard course, placing her eight strokes behind the individual leader. Maline Kraus<\/a> followed with a 3-over-par 75, ending the first 18 holes in a tie for 50th.

\nSouthern California holds the early team lead after a dominant 17-under-par performance. Baylor sits in second place at 9-under-par, followed by CSU Fullerton in third at 7-under-par. USC’s Jasmine Koo is the individual leader after the first round, firing a 6-under-par 66. Koo holds a one-stroke lead over a two-way tie for second place.

\nAmong UH’s other competitors, Emiko Sverduk<\/a> turned in a 7-over-par 79 to sit in a tie for 77th, while Kaydence Kim<\/a> finished one stroke behind her with an 8-over-par 80, tied for 82nd. Sofina Firouzi<\/a> shot 9-over-par 81.

\nThe Rainbow Wahine will return to Papago Golf Club Tuesday for the second round as they look to move up the leaderboard.
