The year 2026 is barely a quarter over, and it\u2019s already been a great year for sci-fi fans. Gore Verbinski\u2019s Good Luck, Have Fun, Don\u2019t Die<\/a> was an excellent surprise. Phil Lord and Chris Miller\u2019s Project Hail Mary is a certifiable smash<\/a>. Pixar\u2019s Hoppers<\/a> is hilarious. But as great as all of those are, there\u2019s another film that we like just a little bit more<\/a>. And now, if you missed it in theaters, you can make a plan to see it starting Tuesday, March 24.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s called Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie<\/a>, written by and starring Matt Johnson (who also directs) and Jay McCarroll. It\u2019s the story of two Toronto friends trying to get their band (Nirvanna The Band) a show at the local concert venue, the Rivoli. Which shouldn\u2019t be a surprise if you\u2019ve seen the show (Nirvanna The Band The Show) the film is based on. That\u2019s basically the plot of every single episode. But this is a movie, so Matt and Jay take things not just to a whole new level, but a whole new time. 2008, to be exact. That\u2019s the sci-fi angle.<\/p>\n

The movie is just completely unforgettable. It\u2019s unlike anything you\u2019ve seen before. The duo shoots the majority of the film in the real world with real people, so you never quite know if what you\u2019re watching is real or not. Some of it clearly is, but other stuff will make you shake your head in disbelief and question reality itself. Then, as it teeters on that line between fact and fiction, it\u2019s also an incredible, heartfelt story about two friends chasing their dreams, teeming with pop culture authority, and plenty of massive laughs along the way.<\/p>\n

Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie will be available for digital rental or purchase starting Tuesday, March 24, and available on Blu-ray and DVD starting May 26. That physical release will have some excellent special features too, such as a commentary with Johnson, McCarrol, and their team, a never-before-seen alternative opening, a new post-credit scene, and more.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, those features are not available on the digital release. They\u2019re exclusive to the physical ones. There is also no news on the long-rumored home release of Nirvanna The Band The Show, which Johnson has said in Q&As would be coming soon. Maybe that will be in a bigger, subsequent release.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, if you want to watch the most batshit, hilarious, unforgettable time-travel movie you\u2019ve ever seen, you can do just that on March 24.<\/p>\n
