Cassie Kelloway isn’t gloating, despite predicting the man accused of burglarizing her family home would end up back in jail again.<\/p>\n
Instead, she’s expressing her disappointment in Justin King and the criminal justice system that released him back into the Conception Bay North region.<\/p>\n
“I wasn’t shocked,” she told CBC’s On the Go on Monday. “We predicted this would happen prior to him getting released two weeks ago.”<\/p>\n
King, 34, was facing 21 charges related to five break-and-enters when he was granted bail two weeks ago by Judge Andrew Wadden in Harbour Grace.<\/p>\n
He was arrested again on Sunday evening, and is now charged with an additional break-and-enter, as well as single counts of extortion, forcible confinement, possessing a break-in instrument and four breaches of court conditions.<\/p>\n
King made a brief court appearance on Monday afternoon, where he requested a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he was fit to stand trial. <\/p>\n
Judge Pamela Goulding asked him a series of basic questions about his understanding of the court process. King answered yes to each question.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not satisfied that it\u2019s necessary for Mr. King to be remanded to the Waterford Hospital based on just the few questions that I\u2019ve had,” Goulding concluded.<\/p>\n
The court scheduled another bail hearing for King on Friday. The Crown is once again opposed to his release.<\/p>\n
In his decision two weeks ago, Wadden told King he was giving him one last shot, and urged him not to mess it up. <\/p>\n
\u201cIf you return to custody, you will likely be in the position of having used your last chance,” Wadden told King. “Please don\u2019t waste this chance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police responded to a report of a break and enter in Victoria at 1:12 a.m. on Sunday, according to a release sent by the RCMP on Monday.<\/p>\n
The homeowner identified the suspect as Justin King, police say.<\/p>\n
Court documents filed on Monday morning shed some more light on the details of the alleged incident.<\/p>\n
According to those documents, the extortion charge stems from allegations he attempted to \u201cinduce [a woman] by threats to engage in sexual intercourse.\u201d It\u2019s alleged he forcibly confined the same woman.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s also accused of breaking a list of five release conditions, including a no-contact order with the woman he’s alleged to have extorted and forcibly confined. It’s also alleged he broke a court-ordered curfew, and was in possession of a cellular device.<\/p>\n
