RCMP officers executed search warrants at the homes of former Calgary mayor Jyoti Gondek<\/a> and current city councillor Andre Chabot<\/a>, Global News has learned.<\/p>\n

According to Gondek, who served as Calgary\u2019s mayor for a single term between 2021 and 2025, officers executed a search warrant at her home and seized a cellphone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been fully cooperative and respect the legal process,\u201d Gondek said in a statement to Global News.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the same time, this has been very invasive, and my lawyer and I will be reviewing it closely to ensure it was justified.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her former colleague, Ward 10 Coun. Andre Chabot, told reporters Tuesday that he was \u201ccompletely surprised\u201d when RCMP officers executed a search warrant at his home on Thursday, which is believed to be connected to a \u201ccorruption investigation\u201d first reported by CBC News.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no idea what the investigation is about. I do know that I was asked to provide my devices for them to gather evidence. That\u2019s about as much as I know,\u201d Chabot said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m fully cooperating with the police. I\u2019m hoping that somehow it will result in something that they can utilize, but at this point I have no idea what they\u2019re investigating.\u201d<\/p>\n

The representative for Ward 10 said he would\u2019ve been \u201cmore than happy\u201d to have given officers his phones had they asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a bit of a distraction, no question about it, but I\u2019m fully complying,\u201d Chabot said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have nothing to hide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Defence lawyer Alain Hepner confirmed he has been retained to represent Chabot.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has nothing to hide and he\u2019s being fully cooperative with all the authorities,\u201d Hepner said in an interview with Global News. \u201cThat\u2019s all I can tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause this involves an ongoing investigation with potential legal implications, I have no further comment at this time,\u201d he told reporters Tuesday.<\/p>\n

When asked about the investigation, the Calgary Police Service confirmed it received a complaint that was referred to the RCMP in October 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo protect the integrity and confidentiality of the ongoing investigative process, no further details will be released at this time,\u201d the police service said in a statement to Global News.<\/p>\n

The complaint was referred to the RCMP\u2019s Federal Policing Northwest Region, which confirmed the ongoing investigation \u201crelating to a referral we received from Calgary Police Services in October 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTo protect the integrity of this ongoing investigation, we have no further comment at this time,\u201d an RCMP spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The City of Calgary confirmed to Global News it is aware of the situation and \u201clooking into it,\u201d but is also refusing comment.<\/p>\n
