Former three-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title challenger Colby Covington returns to action this weekend (Sat., March 28, 2026), stepping onto the Real American Freestyle (RAF) mat to face Dillon Danis in the co-main event of RAF 07<\/a> inside the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.<\/p>\n

That chapter might be closing.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, I love Trump, he\u2019s a great guy, but I\u2019m not really political,\u201d Covington told Bloody Elbow<\/a> ahead of his RAF 07 matchup. \u201cIn the future, you won\u2019t see me campaigning or actively involved in politics. I don\u2019t want to be a part of it anymore. It\u2019s a dirty game, and loyalty is never rewarded.\u201d<\/p>\n

Covington added that his ambitions have shifted dramatically.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dream before was to be the governor of Florida, a senator, a congressman,\u201d he said. \u201cNah \u2014 now I just want to do business with Real American Beer, RAF, and mind my own business in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The timing is\u2026 interesting.<\/p>\n

And in classic Covington fashion, he explained why.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first got the news that I wasn\u2019t going to be a part of it, I was frustrated,\u201d Covington said. \u201cI said some things in the media that I probably shouldn\u2019t have said, and I shared maybe a few too many details because I got fired up. But now that I\u2019ve sat back and kind of analyzed everything, I realize that it\u2019s not a big deal that I\u2019m not fighting at the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to know why? I\u2019ve delivered a world championship belt to a sitting president at the Oval Office<\/a>,\u201d Covington added. \u201cI\u2019ve been invited to election night multiple times. I\u2019ve been invited for election night multiple times, I\u2019ve been to the White House, I\u2019ve seen the West Wing, and I\u2019ve seen everything there. So what do I need to go fight there for? There\u2019s no point, I\u2019ve been there and done that.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the real question.<\/p>\n

Will Covington reinvent himself with a new gimmick \u2014 or revert back to his pre-2016 persona?<\/p>\n
