With just under seven months remaining until the October 2026 civic election, the Green Party of Vancouver has unveiled its first slate of candidates seeking nomination for Vancouver City Council.<\/p>\n
The announcement follows the party\u2019s confirmation in January 2026 that sitting city councillor Pete Fry will run as its mayoral candidate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is an incredibly strong group of people stepping forward to serve,\u201d said Fry in a statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach of these candidates brings a deep commitment to their communities and a practical understanding of the challenges people are facing. I\u2019m excited about the opportunity to build a team at City Hall focused on delivery, transparency, and making life more affordable.\u201d<\/p>\n
The party has identified seven individuals as part of its initial group of \u201capproved candidates,\u201d who will compete for nomination through an upcoming vote by party members. Several of them bring prior electoral experience.<\/p>\n
Among them is Camil Dumont, an urban farming advocate and former Vancouver Park Board commissioner who served with the Greens from 2018 to 2022. Dumont placed third among Park Board candidates in the 2018 civic election, but opted not to seek re-election in 2022 following a turbulent term.<\/p>\n
Annette Reilly is also entering the race after finishing fourth in the April 2025 City Council by-election. She is known for her work in film and television production, including a recurring role in Netflix\u2019s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina in 2018 and 2019.<\/p>\n
Bridget Burns brings extensive campaign experience across the federal, provincial, and municipal levels, including work on the party\u2019s 2022 Vancouver civic election campaign. She currently serves as the party\u2019s national field manager at the federal level.<\/p>\n
The remaining candidates include Effy Demeter, an advocate for the Downtown Eastside, arts, and housing; Julie Strilesky, a climate policy advisor and corporate sustainability manager; Kyra Philbert, a community health nurse and public health advocate working in the Downtown Eastside; and Stephanie Smith, an activist focused on housing, labour, and social justice issues.<\/p>\n
