After nine years, an era at Liverpool<\/a> will come to an end this summer. As the Anfield club and the 33-year-old have announced, Mohamed Salah<\/a> is set to leave the 20-time English champions despite having a contract until 2027. Both parties have agreed to this. Since 2017, Salah has played 435 matches for the Premier League<\/a> side, scoring 255 goals and providing 122 assists. The Egyptian is therefore just outside the top 20 in the club’s all-time appearances ranking, but in terms of goals scored, only two other players have surpassed the 33-year-old.<\/p>\n

Signed from Roma for \u20ac42 million in the summer of 2017, Salah has had a significant impact on the club in recent years. With the forward in their ranks, Liverpool won, among other things, the Champions League, the Premier League title twice, the FA Cup once and the Club World Cup. Salah has been the top scorer four times, most recently last season with 29 goals. At \u20ac150 million, he also reached his highest career market value at Liverpool.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell,\u201d said Salah in a video message on his social media channels: \u201cI will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.\u201d Salah, who had signed a new two-year contract in April 2025, also emphasised that his time at Anfield had shaped his life. \u201cI could never have imagined how much this club, this city and these people would become a part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It is a passion. It is history. I cannot explain it in words to anyone who is not part of this club. We have celebrated victories. We have won the most important trophies and we have got through the toughest times of our lives together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last December, his departure had already been mooted after he publicly criticised manager Arne Slot<\/a>. \u201cI had a good relationship with the manager. But all of a sudden, we no longer have any relationship at all and I don\u2019t know why. Apparently, someone doesn\u2019t want me at the club anymore,\u201d he said at the time. Afterwards, however, he had a heart-to-heart with the manager and gained some distance for the time being through his trip to the Africa Cup of Nations. Since then, he has been a regular starter for Liverpool again. In total, he has been involved in 19 goals in 34 matches this season.
