{"id":559590,"date":"2026-03-25T11:12:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T11:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/559590\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T11:12:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T11:12:11","slug":"oilers-connor-mcdavid-joins-gretzky-lemieux-in-nhl-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/559590\/","title":{"rendered":"Oilers&#8217; Connor McDavid joins Gretzky, Lemieux in NHL history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Connor McDavid continues to rack up points during his NHL career like he&#8217;s from a different era.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nhl\/edmonton-oilers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> superstar has joined Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux in hockey history after notching a milestone point on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>McDavid is now the third-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,200 points, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/news\/edmonton-oilers-connor-mcdavid-becomes-third-fastest-player-1200-points-gretzky-lemieux\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">according to the NHL<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, in the same game, McDavid notched his 400th career goal.<\/p>\n<p>It all came as part of a much-needed 5-2 Oilers win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nhl\/utah-mammoth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Utah Mammoth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MORE:\u00a0<a target=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/ca\/nhl\/toronto-maple-leafs\/news\/maple-leafs-oilers-auston-matthews-connor-mcdavid-blockbuster-trade\/ae86e3f4eafb47cf248ab641\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Is a Connor McDavid-Auston Matthews trade feasible?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It took McDavid 784 games to reach 1,200 points, third-best behind just Gretzky and Lemieux.<\/p>\n<p>Amazingly, it took Gretzky just 504 games to reach 1,200 points.<\/p>\n<p>It took Lemieux 593 games to reach the round-number mark.<\/p>\n<p>McDavid scored a goal during the second period on a breakaway to put the Oilers up 3-2 on Tuesday night to give him 400 for his career.<\/p>\n<p>Then he scored an empty-netter to seal the win, his 40th goal of the season and his 1,200th career point.<\/p>\n<p>This season, McDavid has 40 goals and 78 assists through 72 games (118 points).<\/p>\n<p>And in his career, McDavid has scored 401 goals and dished out 799 assists in 784 games.<\/p>\n<p>More NHL news:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Connor McDavid continues to rack up points during his NHL career like he&#8217;s from a different era.
