{"id":559959,"date":"2026-03-25T15:09:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-25T15:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/559959\/"},"modified":"2026-03-25T15:09:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-25T15:09:07","slug":"corey-mace-up-for-coach-of-the-year-award-at-cfl-banquet-in-edmonton-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/559959\/","title":{"rendered":"Corey Mace up for coach of the year award at CFL banquet in Edmonton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After leading the Saskatchewan Roughriders to their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjme.com\/2025\/11\/16\/saskatchewan-roughriders-defeat-montreal-alouettes-25-17-to-win-2025-grey-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fifth Grey Cup title<\/a> in franchise history, Corey Mace could be adding another accolade to his r\u00e9sum\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>The Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach is up for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjme.com\/2025\/10\/30\/riders-corey-mace-jermarcus-hardrick-named-cfl-west-division-award-winners\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CFL coach of the year award<\/a>, which will be announced on Wednesday evening at a banquet in Edmonton.<\/p>\n<p>Read more:<\/p>\n<p>The other nominee on the ballot is Montreal Alouettes head coach, Jason Maas.<\/p>\n<p>Mace has guided the Riders to a 12-6 record and first place in the CFL for just the fifth time in team history. He has a 21-14-1\u00a0 regular-season record as a head coach since he took over the job in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The culture he has built in the locker room has translated onto the field, with the club leading the league last season in fewest points allowed (346), fewest rushing yards allowed (76.0 per game), fewest yards per opposing rushing attempt (4.6), average time of possession (31:47) and average yards per kickoff return (24.9).<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjme.com\/2025\/11\/08\/the-play-you-dream-about-tommy-nields-late-touchdown-sends-riders-to-grey-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">winning the CFL West Final<\/a> over the B.C. Lions, the Riders went on to win the Grey Cup 25-17 over the Alouettes.<\/p>\n<p>The football operations department of the Riders is also up for an award. The other<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjme.com\/2026\/03\/19\/riders-football-operations-named-a-finalist-for-cfls-ted-goveia-award\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> finalists for the Ted Goveia Football Operations Award<\/a> include the Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Named in honour of the long-time CFL executive who died last September, the award recognizes a CFL club\u2019s football operations department for outstanding achievements in scouting, player identification, roster building and leadership.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 Roughrider squad led the league with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjme.com\/2024\/10\/30\/riders-receive-nine-all-cfl-nods\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nine All-CFL honourees<\/a>: Jacob Brammer, Tevaughn Campbell, Logan Ferland, Jermarcus Hardrick, KeeSean Johnson, Micah Johnson, Rolan Milligan Jr., C.J.
