The Competition Bureau says it has reached an agreement with Welltower OP LLC to address competition concerns related to its proposed deal to buy Amica Senior Lifestyles.<\/p>\n

A review by the competition watchdog had found that Welltower\u2019s purchase of the Amica properties would likely result in a substantial lessening of competition for retirement homes in areas of B.C. and Ontario.<\/p>\n

Under the deal, Welltower will sell four retirement homes from its existing portfolio in Victoria, Vancouver, Brampton, Ont., and Ottawa.<\/p>\n

The sales will be made to independent purchasers to be approved by the Commissioner of Competition.<\/p>\n

Welltower, a U.S.-based real estate investment trust, owns 139 retirement home properties in Canada.<\/p>\n

It signed a deal last year to buy Amica from the Ontario Teachers\u2019 Pension Plan for $4.6 billion.<\/p>\n
