Devinci is taking its fourth generation Spartan back to roots. No carbon. No high pivot or idler. Reasonable pricing. A lifetime warranty. And still built in Canada to send or race with the best.<\/p>\n

All three models of the new Spartan come with a made-in-Canada aluminum frame. Specifically, Optimum G04 6061-T6 Aluminum. Devinci argues both for aluminum as a quality frame material, hand-built in the Saguenay Valley, and a more sustainable option. The brand works hard to reclaim any waste, including warrantied frames, from making the Spartan is recycled.<\/p>\n

Devinci Spartan Gen. 4<\/p>\n

The Spartan has 165mm of Devinci\u2019s classic Split-Pivot suspension, with new 170mm Fox 38 forks up front for the top-end model. While the design is simpler than the third generation Spartan \u2013 there is no high pivot or idler to be found \u2013 it still has some tricks up its sleeve.<\/p>\n

There are two flip chips on the new Spartan. One to adjust between MX and 29\u2033 wheels. The other a long\/short chainstay option (\u00b17mm). There are two chainstay lengths across the size range, too, to keep fit consistent across sizes. One for the S, M frames and one for the L and XL frames.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also now a \u201cshed\u201d downtube storage system. Choices like threaded BB, Boost 148 spacing, Enduro bearings, and coil shock compatibility make the Spartan a frame that should last as long as its lifetime warranty. There are some more interesting choices, too. Like a 31.6mm diameter dropper post and a 34t max chainring size.<\/p>\n

\nSensible builds not stratospheric prices<\/p>\n

The Spartan frame is built for real world abuse, not showroom floors. Devinici\u2019s outfitted three builds with parts to match.<\/p>\n

The Spartan range tops out at $7,500 (USD 6,000) for the GX AXS build, with Fox Factory suspension and SRAM Maven Silver brakes but carbon wheels and Era bars from Race Face. A SRAM Eagle 90 build reverts to mechanical shifting and RockShox Select+ suspension for $5,800 (USD 4,800).<\/p>\n

For $4,500 (USD 3,900) you get Shimano Deore 12-speed mechanical shifting, SRAM DB8 brakes, RockShox Domain Gold fork and Fox Float X2 shock. All builds are between 36.7lbs and 38.2lbs or 17.0 and 17.3kg for a size medium. The frame itself is 4.7kg (10.32 lbs)<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a frame-only option for $2,900 (USD $2,400).<\/p>\n
