{"id":562250,"date":"2026-03-26T14:53:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-26T14:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/562250\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T14:53:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T14:53:09","slug":"before-the-bell-what-every-canadian-investor-needs-to-know-today-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/562250\/","title":{"rendered":"Before the Bell: What every Canadian investor needs to know today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Equities<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Global markets slid amid dimming hopes for \u2060a \u200bquick end to the Middle East conflict as the U.S. and Iran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-iran-us-war-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-iran-us-war-talks\/\">issued conflicting statements<\/a> about ceasefire talks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Wall Street futures were in the red after major North American markets closed higher yesterday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">TSX futures followed sentiment lower.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In Canada, investors are getting results from BRP Inc., which reported a fourth-quarter profit of $45.8-million and a 16-per cent-increase in revenue compared with a year earlier as it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-brp-fourth-quarter-results-earnings-dividend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/business\/article-brp-fourth-quarter-results-earnings-dividend\/\">raised its quarterly dividend<\/a> to 25 cents per share from 21.5 cents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cIt looks like the market\u2019s relief trade is starting to wobble,\u201d said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo. \u201cTraders \u200care also remembering \u200bthat one peace rumour does not undo \u200cthe inflation and rates damage already in the system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Overseas, the pan-European STOXX 600 was down 1.2 per cent in morning trading. Britain\u2019s FTSE 100 declined 1.28 per cent, Germany\u2019s DAX dropped 1.58 per cent and France\u2019s CAC 40 fell 0.94 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In Asia, Japan\u2019s Nikkei closed 0.27 per cent lower, while Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng fell 1.89 per cent. <\/p>\n<p>Commodities<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Oil prices were on the rise, clawing back yesterday\u2019s losses on concerns \u200bthat protracted fighting in the Middle East will further disrupt energy flows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Brent futures gained 5 per cent to US$107.30 a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were up 4.5 per cent to US$94.32 a barrel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cOptimism regarding a ceasefire has faded,\u201d said Tsuyoshi Ueno, senior economist at \u200bNLI Research Institute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">He added that the bar set \u2060by Washington appeared high, leaving oil prices vulnerable to further volatility \u2060depending on negotiations and military actions by both sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In other commodities, spot gold fell 1.4 per cent to US$4,441.20 \u200ban ounce. U.S. gold futures \u200cfor April delivery lost 2.5 per cent to trade at US$4,438.50.<\/p>\n<p>Currencies and bonds<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The Canadian dollar weakened against its U.S. counterpart. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The day range on the loonie was 72.25 US cents to 72.45 US cents in early trading. The Canadian dollar was down about 1.06 per cent against the greenback over the past month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The U.S. dollar index, which weighs the greenback against a group of currencies, gained 0.28 per cent to 99.87. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The euro declined 0.16 per cent to US$1.1542.
