Earlier this week, a Bloomberg report<\/a> outlined Apple\u2019s big plans for a Siri overhaul in iOS 27. And if it proves accurate, I\u2019m very excited for the direction Apple\u2019s taking with Siri.<\/p>\n iOS 27\u2019s Siri upgrades are reportedly a major overhaul<\/p>\n It\u2019s nearly been two years since Apple detailed its plans for an AI-infused Siri at WWDC 2024. It pitched powerful new features like personal context, onscreen awareness, and new in-app and cross-app actions.<\/p>\n That trio of features is still highlighted<\/a> on the Apple Intelligence website. But none of them have shipped. <\/p>\n Apple promises they\u2019ll arrive in 2026, and iOS 27 is the expected release target.<\/p>\n But the Mark Gurman report at Bloomberg<\/a> this week points to a much bigger Siri overhaul than just three new features.<\/p>\n Siri is not only being given new powers in iOS 27\u2014it\u2019s being overhauled into a truly crucial part of the iPhone. <\/p>\n It sounds like Apple\u2019s doing exactly what I want from an all-new Siri.<\/p>\n Siri in iOS 27 will have new modes that make it an ever-present AI assistant<\/p>\n Per Bloomberg, the new Siri isn\u2019t just getting new features in iOS 27. It will also take on new forms, or modes of use. Those include:<\/p>\n Siri app<\/p>\n Siri in the Dynamic Island<\/p>\n Siri replacing Spotlight for searches<\/p>\n \u2019Ask Siri\u2019 button in app menus<\/p>\n \u2019Write with Siri\u2019 option in keyboard<\/p>\n I\u2019m especially excited about the first three, and a little uncertain about the final two but hope Apple implements them in tasteful ways that don\u2019t feel like Clippy<\/a>.<\/p>\n Having a dedicated Siri app is a great move because, as apps like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini have proven, it can be very useful to have a central hub for AI interactions and history.<\/p>\n Integrating Siri into the Dynamic Island makes a lot of sense too, especially since some AI requests might take a little extra time. The Dynamic Island is a systemwide tool, so with those more intensive asks, users will be able to continue using their iPhone normally and track Siri\u2019s progress at the top of the screen.<\/p>\n I like the thought of Siri taking over Spotlight too. Assuming it\u2019s done well, merging the intelligence of Siri and a traditional systemwide search tool feels like a no-brainer.<\/p>\n More than the individual details of these Siri \u2018modes,\u2019 what has me especially excited is the bigger picture.<\/p>\n All of the above sound like Siri is expanding not just in knowledge and capability, but also its presence across iOS. It\u2019s becoming an ever-present AI assistant for the modern iPhone user.<\/p>\n If Apple (and Google<\/a>) can\u2019t deliver on Siri\u2019s intelligence, then making Siri ever-present in iOS 27 will be a disaster.<\/p>\n But assuming the new Gemini foundation truly delivers, I\u2019m very excited for what\u2019s coming in iOS 27.<\/p>\n What are your hopes and expectations for Siri in iOS 27?
