With many visitors expected to be in Toronto for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, the City has unveiled a mobility plan outlining how people will be able to move throughout the city during the tournament.<\/p>\n

Made with transportation and public safety partners, the FIFA World Cup 2026 Mobility Plan aims to support accessible travel and minimize overall travel impacts.<\/p>\n

\u201cToronto will experience varying levels of activity during the FIFA World Cup 2026,\u00a0with the highest volumes occurring on match days,\u201d the City said in a press release on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Over 45,000 spectators are expected on match days at Toronto Stadium, while up to 20,000 people are estimated to attend the FIFA Fan Festival at Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway.<\/p>\n

To accommodate the high number of visitors, the City is implementing transportation and traffic management measures especially near Exhibition Place, Liberty Village, Fort York, the waterfront, Toronto Stadium and the FIFA Fan Festival.<\/p>\n

The following changes will be in effect between June 11 and July 19:<\/p>\n

Public transit will be the primary way to travel to and from matches and events. There will be no public parking available at Toronto Stadium, Exhibition Place or in surrounding neighbourhoods, including Liberty Village and Fort York, where local access restrictions will be in place.
\nTransit service adjustments will be implemented to support increased demand.
\nWalking and cycling will be supported by enhanced routes and\u00a0increased\u00a0temporary bicycle parking.
\nVehicle-for-hire (rideshare) access will be limited to designated pick-up and drop-off areas outside restricted areas surrounding Toronto Stadium,\u00a0Exhibition\u00a0Place\u00a0and the FIFA Fan Festival site at Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway, where vehicle access is limited to support event operations,\u00a0safety\u00a0and crowd management.
\nTemporary traffic and parking measures, including road closures, parking restrictions and curb lane changes, will vary by location and timing, with different measures in place on match days and throughout the FIFA World Cup\u00a02026\u00a0to support tournament operations.
\nTraffic operations, signal\u00a0timing\u00a0and enforcement adjustments\u00a0will be made\u00a0to manage increased demand, supported by a Unified Mobility\u00a0Co-ordination\u00a0Centre\u00a0monitoring conditions in real time.<\/p>\n

Toronto will host six FIFA World Cup 2026 matches beginning in June 2026, including the first-ever men\u2019s FIFA World Cup match on Canadian soil featuring Canada\u2019s Men\u2019s National Team.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, $160 million in upgrades<\/a> were completed at Exhibiton Place\u2019s Toronto Stadium, where the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches in Toronto will be hosted.<\/p>\n

The new upgrades include temporary seating expansions bringing capacity up to 45,000 seats, a new pitch and dugout areas, as well as additional hospitality spaces.<\/p>\n

Some of these spaces will be here to stay even after the tournament, according to Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, but the seating expansion is set to be deconstructed after the games.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is about more than the matches. It is about bringing people together, celebrating our diversity and showcasing the strength and spirit of our communities while creating lasting benefits for Toronto long after the final whistle,\u201d Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in an official statement.<\/p>\n
